Queen Maduekwe Cynthia: Her Journey To Stardom

Maduekwe Cynthia Onyinyechukwu, hailing from Ezeagu LGA in Enugu State, is not only a model but also a beauty queen. She is currently a 300-level Guidance and Counselling student at St. Augustine College of Education, Akoka, which is affiliated with the University of Ibadan.

Cynthia’s modeling journey has been quite fascinating. She shares, “I never considered modeling until a photographer friend encouraged me in 2020. I loved the experience and quickly fell in love with modeling as it showcases art in unique ways and tells the stories of people and things. From there, I frequently modeled for my friend, which also sparked my makeup journey. Through various collaborations, I connected with Jemmyscouture Fashion Brand, and I am now their face.”

Although I attempted to join different agencies without success, I remained persistent. Initially, I didn’t envision myself in pageantry because I dreaded losing. However, my classmates persuaded me to enter our departmental pageant during my first year, and I won, earning the title of Miss SCASSON (Student Counselling Association of Nigeria) in 2023. That same year, I also won the school pageant as Miss Project T.I.M.E.

As the representative of my school, I initiated a publicity project by visiting churches and schools to promote our institution and participated in a video project aimed at boosting awareness. Simultaneously, I competed in the Miss CYON pageantry at SS Joachim and Anne Catholic Church in Ijegun, Lagos, where I emerged victorious, also in 2023. In 2024, I launched a one-year initiative called “Project Dynamo,” focused on uniting the youth.

Despite the challenges I’ve faced, particularly related to financial constraints and balancing my studies, I have managed to navigate these hurdles. Handling ticket sales and online voting has also been a valuable learning experience. I am grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had and thankful to God for the growth and lessons learned.

Looking ahead to 2025, I have several projects planned, including the Pro-Life seminar and “Pad a Girl.” Modeling has been a source of comfort for me, allowing me to express different facets of my identity. Pageantry has unlocked skills I didn’t know I possessed, and it’s taught me that modeling and pageantry are about self-acceptance and embracing one’s true self and potential.
